Hope. Help. Heal.
Thanks to support from people like you, the Alberta Children's
Hospital provides the very best in care to over 80,000 kids and
families when they need it most.
The Alberta Chidren's Hospital Foundation raises funds for
excellence and money raised by the Alberta Children's Hospital
Foundation is re-invested in the hospital and child health needs in
this region.Through the generosity of our donors we are able to
provide funding for family centred child health programs,
specialized life-saving equipment and advanced pediatric research
and education at the Alberta Children's Hospital.
Below are just a few of the exciting initiatives at our hospital
made possible by community support:
Childhood Cancer
Our cancer team is made up of nationally - and internationally -
recognized clinical and research specialists. Thanks to community
support, they have established incredible expertise, especially in
two key areas - Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and
Experimental and Applied Therapeutics. The Alberta Chidren's
Hospital is known across the country for its high BMT survival
rates… and is the only Canadian member of an elite Phase I clinical
trail group that is finding new cures for kids with cancer.
Emergency Care
Thanks to community support, our hospital has become a national
leader in simulation training to provide the best emergency, trauma
and critical care possible for children. Like flight simulation for
pilots, high-tech human patient simulation (HPS) gives health care
professionals the crucial opportunity to run mock trauma and
resuscitation drills on sophisticated KIDSIM™ mannequins to better
prepare staff for real emergencies. With generous support from the
community, the Alberta Children's Hospital will soon become the
only children's hospital in Canada with a patient simulation lab on
site. Since the new hospital opened, more than five thousand
doctors, nurses, residents, students and therapists have benefitted
from hands-on learning with KIDSIM.
Brain Health
Thanks to people like you, we have recruited Dr. Jong Rho, a
world-renowned clinician-scientist to lead both research and
clinical care for children facing injury and illness of the brain
and spinal cord. He is providing great leadership to our hospital's
strong team of neurosciences experts - made up of national leaders
in areas such as pediatric stroke and brain surgery.
In addition, we have also recruited Alberta's first Chair in
Pediatric Mental Health, Dr. Frank MacMaster, who is the first in
the world to use biological research to inform the development of
new medication to help children with certain mood disorders. These
medications are being evaluated in clinical trials right now to
treat children with obsessive compulsive disorder.
Research
The Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute for Child and
Maternal Health has now united more than 180 leading experts in
research, education, clinical care and community health who this
year - with $4M in donations from our community - have leveraged an
additional $28M in external grants and published more than 310
research papers
